British Columbia Conservation Data Centre – 2022 Update
The BC Conservation Data Centre (CDC) is now a part of the Ministry of Land, Water and Resource Stewardship, and continues to catalogue, assess the conservation status, and map species and ecological communities in BC. We are also a member of the non-profit organisation, NatureServe Canada, and the international NatureServe Network. There are over 60 member programs employing over 1,000 conservation professionals. We share a common method for ranking and mapping species and ecological communities. What an amazing source of collective expertise!
*Highlights*
Over 2200 species and ecological communities were added to our database and over 3800 conservation status ranks were reviewed/assigned.
Over 2400 Element Occurrences have been added or updated in our spatial layers this year.

The BC CDC responded to over 820 custom data requests this year and our web tools were accessed over 400,000 times per year.

2022 Taxonomy, Classification, and Rank Updates
The BC CDC annually releases updates to conservation status ranks of selected species and ecological communities, additions of new species and ecological communities in BC, and changes in species taxonomy and ecological community classification. CDC data were updated in July and made available through BC Species and Ecosystems Explorer (BCSEE). BCSEE reflects the Provincial Resource Inventory Standards Committee (RISC) standard for scientific names, English names, and species codes (RISC codes) for species and ecological communities in BC.
